It’s Official…

…I’m getting old.

I’ve got my first prescription for real glasses. Not pretend reading things that you lose half the time and manage without for the rest, but real, I need ’em to see, glasses. I’m hoping this will put an end to the week-long headaches I’ve been getting over the last six months.

I realized I hadn’t been to the optometrists in a while; five years actually. “No. It can’t be five years can it?”. Where did five years go? What the heck have I been doing? “Five years? Really?”

Anyway, once my incredulity wore off, I realized that I could see clearly with the test lenses. “This is brilliant. Can’t I just take these with me” I asked? No. Apparently they need the machine and lenses for other patients.

I’m quite excited, actually. I hate not seeing clearly. It’s like having a film over your eyes or looking through steam. I’d rather see clearly than worry about my vanity, although the frames are really stylish and you could easily be vain if you wanted to. Perhaps I will look stylish now…nah.

I’ve also got a new prescription for reading (pretend) glasses too. I lost the last pair six months after I got them. I left them in London, England, making them a bit difficult to retrieve. My friend gave me a brilliant piece of advice, “buy them in packs of 3 from the drug store. Then who cares if you lose a pair”. I did buy a pair from the drug store for a tenth of the price of the prescription glasses, but apparently I bought the wrong ones. No wonder I’ve been struggling.

I now need something about 40% stronger than what I’ve been using. I may actually be able to read the ingredients on a box of Coco-puffs. Is that good or bad? I’m joking, I’ve never bought Coco-puffs in my life! I do need to check for ingredients though, especially if I don’t want to kill Tom accidentally. He has several anaphylactic allergies. I’m sure he will be thrilled that I know what food I’m buying now.

This should all mean that my eyesight will be shiny and new again. It won’t exactly be seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses, but I should imagine it will feel pretty close.

And all those times you said you were sure there were no eggs…you might have been “guessing” a bit, but I’m still here so you must have done OK…besides, men do make passes at girls who wear glasses…
